About
Certosino was first bottled for public sale in 1836 by the Certosini (Carthusian) monks of Florence Italy, the same order as the Chartreuse monks of France. Certosa di Firenze - the Florence Charterhouse - was transferred to the Cistercian order in 1958. However, a partnership was created soon thereafter to preserve the formula known as Distilleria Del Certosino Di Binazzi Guido, located at Via Senese, 265 in the Galluzzo neighborhood of Florence.
Today the exact recipe for Certosino - more than 120 herbs and spices - is a closely guarded secret maintained by the Pasano family of Pisa, Italy. The herbs used to make Certosino are sourced in a sustainable manner in the Tuscany region and the cherries are from Campania. Old world methods are used in every aspect of sourcing and preparation.
Certosino is bottled in Northern Italy as well as the United States, using Italian ingredients, in order to both minimize the negative impacts of extensive energy usage and to ensure ready availability of Certosino products throughout the world.
Heritage
Certosino stands as a testament to the industry, innovation, diligence and craftsmanship of generations of monks working to sustain themselves while being devoted to worshiping their Creator.
Certosa di Firenze
The historical home of the Carthusian monks of Italy, founded in 1341, remains a landmark in the Galluzzo area of Florence and is presently maintained by the Cistercian order of monks.
Authentic Recipe
Based on a sixteenth century alchemical formula attributed to Paracelsus, Certosino balances more than 120 herbs, spices, fruits, and flora in a symphony of flavor - Vivaldi for your tastebuds, if you will.
